Herbal Supplements: Plant Extracts and Botanical Supplements in Portugal

In this collection you will find herbal supplements and plant extracts from brands such as NOW Foods, Swanson, Osavi, OstroVit, Applied Nutrition and Himalaya: fenugreek, turmeric, milk thistle, ginkgo biloba, garlic, beetroot, spirulina, horsetail, bacopa, cordyceps and many more. Plants have no authorised health claims in the EU, so we describe each product by species, plant part, extract type and dose.

Standardised extracts: a standardised extract guarantees a minimum content of a marker compound (for example curcuminoids in turmeric or flavone glycosides in ginkgo). Compare the amount of extract per serving and the standardisation stated on the label.

Powders and superfoods: products such as spirulina, beetroot powder or greens blends are concentrated foods, described by their nutritional composition. For ashwagandha and maca, see ashwagandha and plant and mushroom extracts.

Formulas with vitamins and minerals: where a formula includes significant amounts of vitamins or minerals, the claims for those nutrients apply. You will find single vitamins in vitamins.

Safety: plant extracts may interact with medicines (for example anticoagulants, antidepressants or contraceptives). Do not exceed the recommended daily dose and consult your doctor before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or have a medical condition.

Frequently asked questions

Are herbal supplements medicines? No. The products in this collection are food supplements and are not intended to prevent, treat or cure any disease.

How do I know how much plant I am taking? The label states the amount of powder or extract per serving and, for standardised extracts, the percentage of the marker compound. A concentrated extract may correspond to a larger amount of dried plant.

Where can I buy them? At Nutri9 you can buy online with delivery across Portugal or visit our physical shop in Malveira. See also health and wellbeing.
