Anti-Ageing and Antioxidants: Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Selenium, Omega-3 and Collagen

What science allows us to say: there are no authorised "anti-ageing" or longevity claims in the European Union. There are, however, nutrients that contribute to the protection of cells from oxidative stress: vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, zinc, copper, manganese and riboflavin (vitamin B2). These claims apply only to products that provide at least 15% of the nutrient reference value (NRV) per daily dose — always check each product's table.

Vitamin C and collagen: vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin, bones, cartilage and blood vessels. Collagen peptides are a hydrolysed protein; we describe them by the amount per serving. See Vitamin C and Collagen and Cartilage.

Vitamin E and selenium: vitamin E (as in Vitamin E-200) and selenium contribute to the protection of cells from oxidative stress; selenium also contributes to the maintenance of normal hair and nails. Find more in Minerals.

Omega-3: EPA and DHA contribute to the normal function of the heart (with 250 mg of EPA + DHA a day) and DHA to the maintenance of normal brain function and normal vision (with 250 mg of DHA a day). See Omegas & Fats.

Other ingredients: coenzyme Q10, resveratrol, astaxanthin, alpha-lipoic acid, glutathione, NAC, milk thistle and greens blends have no authorised health claims in the European Union, so we describe them only by origin, form and amount per serving.

Frequently asked questions

Do antioxidants slow down ageing? We cannot claim that. A diet rich in fruit and vegetables, exercise and regular sleep remain the foundation. Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose and consult your doctor before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or have a medical condition.
