Frequently Asked Questions

What is vitamin D for?

Vitamin D contributes to normal absorption and utilisation of calcium and phosphorus, to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth, to the maintenance of normal muscle function and to the normal function of the immune system. The body produces vitamin D mainly through exposure to sunlight.

Both provide 125 mcg (5000 IU) of vitamin D3. The chewable is a mint-flavoured tablet with no gelatin; the softgel contains bovine gelatin and olive oil. Neither is vegan, because the D3 comes from lanolin.

No. The vitamin D3 is obtained from lanolin, a fat from sheep's wool. For a vegan D3, look for a formula with D3 from lichen.

NOW Foods recommends chewing 1 tablet per day with a meal that contains fat. As the dose is above the EFSA tolerable upper intake level, use it only under medical supervision with monitoring of your vitamin D levels.
